MAHAMA ANNOUNCES 2KM FOR REGIONS WITHOUT AIRPORTS AS GOVERNMENT TARGETS EMERGENCY LANDINGS AND MEDICAL EVACUATIONS
President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to construct approximately two-kilometre airstrips in every Ghanaian region that does not already have an airport. The facilities will include small control offices and are intended principally to provide landing sites for aircraft during emergencies and urgent medical evacuations. Western North Region has been specifically identified as one of the beneficiaries. The government has not yet announced the total cost, construction timetable or complete list of locations under the programme.
