Israeli airstrikes have killed at least three Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as negotiations over the unresolved steps towards a permanent end to the conflict remain stalled, according to health officials cited by Reuters.

The strikes were reported on Saturday, September 19, in northern Gaza and Gaza City despite a United States brokered ceasefire that has been in place since October 2025.

Among those killed was Basir Al Bursh, the son of Munir Al Bursh, Director General of Gaza's Health Ministry.

Medics and family members said Basir Al Bursh was killed in a strike near the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

The Israeli military said it had struck several militants on Saturday, including Basir Al Bursh, but did not provide further information supporting its description of him.

Hamas had not immediately commented on the Israeli military's statement.

THREE KILLED IN SATURDAY STRIKES

Elsewhere in Gaza, a strike killed a man in Shejaia, east of Gaza City, according to the civil defence service and medical officials.

Another strike hit a vehicle in the Sheikh Radwan district of Gaza City, killing one person.

The Israeli military said the Sheikh Radwan strike targeted a Hamas militant.

The three incidents brought the reported death toll from Saturday's Israeli strikes to at least three.

SENIOR HEALTH OFFICIAL LOSES SON

Basir Al Bursh's father, Munir Al Bursh, is one of the most senior health officials in Gaza.

Reuters footage showed him carrying his son's body as mourners accompanied it towards an ambulance.

The family had previously suffered casualties during the conflict.

Munir Al Bursh lost a daughter in an Israeli airstrike in December 2023 and was himself wounded in the same attack, according to family members and medics.

CEASEFIRE REMAINS FRAGILE

The latest deaths come despite the ceasefire agreed between Israel and Hamas in October 2025.

The agreement brought an end to much of the large scale fighting but has not stopped deadly incidents inside Gaza.

According to Gaza health officials cited by Reuters, more than 1,300 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect.

The Israeli military says four Israeli soldiers have been killed during the same period.

Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating the agreement.

PERMANENT SETTLEMENT REMAINS UNRESOLVED

The ceasefire agreement calls for eventual reconstruction of Gaza, but progress towards implementing a broader settlement has been limited.

Negotiators have yet to reach agreement on some of the most difficult outstanding issues.

These include the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

The lack of agreement has delayed wider implementation of the peace plan and reconstruction of the devastated territory.

GAZA FACES CONTINUING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS

The continuing strikes come as Gaza struggles with widespread destruction caused by more than two years of war.

Large numbers of Palestinians remain displaced, with many living in tents, temporary shelters or buildings damaged during earlier Israeli military operations.

Reconstruction has made little progress.

A war damaged apartment building in Gaza City collapsed earlier this week, killing 21 people and highlighting the danger faced by families sheltering in damaged structures.

Palestinian and United Nations officials have cited shortages of equipment and restrictions on materials as major obstacles to clearing rubble and rebuilding.

Israel says restrictions on some equipment are intended to prevent materials from reaching militants.

CONFLICT BEGAN AFTER OCTOBER 2023 ATTACK

Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza following the Hamas led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which approximately 1,200 people were killed.

Palestinian authorities say more than 73,000 people have since been killed during Israel's military campaign in Gaza.

The figures provided by Gaza authorities do not generally distinguish between civilians and combatants.

Israel has said its military operations target Hamas and other armed groups.

The latest strikes demonstrate the continuing fragility of the ceasefire as negotiators struggle to resolve the political and security issues required for a more permanent settlement.
