“INTELLECT DOESN’T PAY MONEY” TEKNO DEFENDS PELLER, CARTER EFE IN OLODO UPRISING DEBATE
Nigerian singer Tekno has weighed into the viral “Olodo Uprising” debate, arguing that entertainers who make audiences laugh through goofy or deliberately unserious personalities are not a new phenomenon. Speaking during an appearance on Yanga FM 89.9, Tekno compared modern internet personalities including Carter Efe and Peller with veteran Nollywood comic characters made famous by actors such as Osuofia and the late Mr Ibu. According to Tekno, audiences have always been willing to spend hours watching entertainers behave in exaggerated or unserious ways because they find them funny. He argued that social media has simply created a new business model around the same type of entertainment, allowing creators to turn attention into advertising revenue, endorsements and other commercial opportunities.
