GOVERNMENT SETS 16 OCTOBER TO PAY THE FIRST TEACHER ARREARS AND TELLS STRIKERS TO GO BACK TO CLASS
Haruna Iddrisu announced the 16 October target at the 2026 Teacher Prize in Accra. He said the Ghana Education Service and the Controller and Accountant General had until 4 p.m. on 5 October to validate at least 51,000 promoted teachers for new grades and a supplementary arrears payment. Eligible arrears run from January 2020. About 80,000 teachers are in the wider group. He pledged to account for the rest on 30 October, and asked striking teachers to return to school.
