KENYAN DOOMSDAY PREACHER PAUL MACKENZIE AND 28 OTHERS CONVICTED OVER MURDER OF 190 CHILDREN AND ONE ADULT IN SHAKAHOLA CULT CASE
Kenyan doomsday preacher Paul Nthenge Mackenzie and 28 others have been convicted over the murders of 191 people in the Shakahola starvation cult case, including 190 children and one adult. The High Court rejected arguments that the victims voluntarily chose to fast and found that followers of Mackenzie’s Good News International Church were subjected to an organised system of religious indoctrination and enforced starvation. More than 400 bodies have been recovered from the wider Shakahola area since mass graves were discovered in 2023, although Monday’s judgment dealt specifically with 191 deaths. Sentencing is scheduled for November 6, 2026.
