NIGERIAN PUBLIC WORKERS BEGIN THREE DAY NATIONWIDE WARNING STRIKE
Public servants across Nigeria have begun a three day nationwide warning strike over rising living costs, fuel prices, wage demands and unresolved labor agreements. The action was called by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council and covers workers at federal, state and local government levels. The strike began on October 2 and is scheduled to continue through October 4. Among the workers’ major demands are a reduction in the price of petrol to ₦500 per litre, an immediate wage award and the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage ahead of 2027. Reports from different parts of the country show mixed compliance, with some government offices closed or operating with reduced staff while others remained open.
