GHANA ORDERS CENTRAL REVIEW OF ALL PUBLIC SECTOR AI PURCHASES
Ghana has introduced a centralized technical review process for artificial intelligence systems acquired by public institutions as the government moves to strengthen cybersecurity, data protection and oversight of rapidly expanding AI use. The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations will coordinate requirements, while the National Information Technology Agency will conduct technical scoping before proposed systems move forward. Government says the review will assess interoperability, cybersecurity, data protection, sustainability, local skills transfer and the risk of public institutions becoming too dependent on individual technology vendors. The new mechanism will complement existing procurement laws rather than replace them.
