DR CONGO EBOLA OUTBREAK TOPS 9,000 CASES AND 4,300 DEATHS AS VIRUS SPREADS ACROSS MORE PROVINCES
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak has reached 9,066 confirmed cases and 4,381 deaths, making it the largest and deadliest Ebola outbreak in the country’s history and the second-largest ever recorded globally. WHO says transmission remains active across dozens of health zones, while health officials have reported further spread into North Ubangi, potentially bringing the number of affected provinces to eight. The Bundibugyo strain has no approved vaccine or specific licensed treatment, and the response continues to be complicated by conflict, weak health infrastructure, population movement and cross-border transmission risks.
